About the Author
Guy Sylvester is the Founder and CEO of Absolute Air Quality in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Over the past few decades, Guy has worked for many large environmental organizations, but he has said that he found his true calling when he saw his air quality business making a real difference in the lives of his customers. Since then, he has become a passionate advocate for public health as it relates to indoor air quality. Guy has seen the negative health effects that mold exposure can cause, and he has seen an unregulated mold industry taking advantage of an unsuspecting public that does not know where to turn for help. Realizing that he is in a position to make a difference and take a stand on this issue, Guy has devoted himself to the cause, working diligently with lawmakers to get air quality regulations and consumer protection on the books in New Hampshire and nationwide.
Guy has more than 25 years of experience in industrial hygiene, environmental indoor air quality, and environmental analytical testing. As the quality control manager for one of the nation’s largest publicly held environmental firms in the world, International Technologies Corporation, Guy worked directly with federal, state, and military regulatory personnel to develop and implement industry regulations. Guy also served for many years on the Board of Directors of the International Association of Environmental Testing Laboratories (IAETL). In this capacity, Guy and other board members helped shape much of what the environmental, industrial hygiene, and indoor air quality testing industry is today.
In 2000, Guy and his wife, Susan Sylvester, acquired Resource Laboratories, LLC, an environmental consulting and testing firm in Portsmouth, NH. In 2007, because of the high demand for indoor air quality services, the principals of the company established a new division of the business, Absolute Air Quality (AAQ). AAQ provides results-oriented indoor air quality assessments and services throughout New England.
Guy currently serves on the Boards of Directors of the New Hampshire Chapter of the Indoor Air Quality Association, the American Indoor Air Quality Council, and the American Lung Association–New England. Guy is a practicing industrial hygienist, board-certified microbial consultant, board-certified indoor environmental consultant, and state-certified asbestos inspector.
Before starting his career in environmental hygiene and testing in his mid 20s, Guy was a wildlife biologist, and his attraction to the natural earth and all its creatures remains very strong. In his spare time, he can be found kayaking, sailing, camping, biking and even running in 5K races for fun. His most pleasurable moments, however, come from spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
